IGN interviewed Jonathan Frakes about Into Darkness visit, TNG Season 3, Best of Both World, The Offspring, First Contact and more (interview starts around 7.45 minutes into the podcast):
Question: Did you visit the set of Into Darkness? We heard a rumor that you did.
Frakes: Yes, I was lucky enough to go over there when Cumberbatch was on the set and doing a scene with Pine. He’s a fabulous villain, first of all, and I’m a big J.J. fan, so I was thrilled to be there. I was there one day close to the end of their shooting. I think that movie’s going to be very exciting. The trailers look amazing.
Question: Yeah, the new one just came out today. It looks pretty great. It has my 15 bucks.
Frakes: Yeah, me too!
Question: Just one last question. To segway a bit from the success of Season 3 with the Borg, obviously, that was revisited in your first feature film Star Trek: First Contact. I was wondering, what was your process in terms of making the Borg scarier again on the big screen as you guys did for the TV screen?
Frakes: I think the addition of Alice Krige as the Borg Queen heightened the sense that First Contact was not only a Star Trek movie and an action-adventure movie, but in many ways a horror movie. That was something that we embraced, and we shot it in that fashion. I think it worked on its own merit. One of the reasons I think First Contact was so successful was that you didn’t have to know anything about Next Gen to enjoy that story.
