Hey there. I've been downloading ships for Starfleet Command 2 for a while now, and I have realised that there are some really strange ships out there!

I've created pics of the most unusual starships that I have found, and I'm going to post them up on this thread, if anyone wants' to see them.

I was wondering if anyone else had any unusual ships as well. You can add your pics to this thread as well.

If you are unsure how, a good way to do it, is to sign up to photobucket: -

http://photobucket.com/

Photobucket is a completely free website, that gives you some free webspace, to store pictures etc. on. It also allows you to then access them through other websites, because it provides the image tags for you.

Once you have the webspace, you are ready to create your pics! Once you are in your game, press the 'print screen' button, and then close or minimise it. Open up any program that lets you make pictures (Microsoft paint/bitmaps don't work on this website)

If you can't do this, you can download some programs (Free) to do it. A good one is irfanview: -

http://www.irfanview.com/main_download_engl.htm

The bottom link is the best, but is also the biggest download, so depending on your connection speed, you may opt for a different version.

Irfanview can change the image type of any pics you have; it is a file converter.

Anyway, enough of this, these are my current pics (If the Class name is different on the hulls, it is because they are Kitbashes of ships, not because I have got the Class name wrong)

The Gunship (No Class name)
Image
The Furious Class
Image
The Chandley Class
Image
The Halifax Class
Image
The Catalina Class
Image
The Bolton Class
Image
The Banting Class
Image

Well? What do you think of these? Add some of your own, if you feel like it! (They don't have to be from Starfleet command - they can be from anywhere)

I'll post more up soon, if people want them.

Thanks MajorDiarr, for letting me know about these programs - they were definitely worth it!

Glas I could help.

I really only like the first and fifth ships but the first as a non-Federation ship. The rest either don't have nice shapes or have bad nacelle placement. Other than that they are interesting. The last one is pretty good but I think the Miranda covers it well enough.

I don't remember why I made this one, i guess just for fun. Personaly, I think the Sovereign should be as wide as the Galaxy while maintaining its dimensions. So in the end it comes out about twice as long. I was also on a turreted torpedo launcher thing at the time, so there are a few of the turrets on the hull. The Prometheus in the pic is one I scaled up because I think the the Prometheus should be at least 30% larger in production like the guy who designed it said.
Image
Same ship but a little smaller. Actualy I remember I scaled it better in this picture.
Image

I made this one for a fanfic that's currently called Those Who Stand. The idea behind it is this Sovereign, the Voyager-B, was refitted for Quantum Slipstream travel. So I lowered its nacelles and shortened the pylons to make the hull structeraly stronger for the stresses of the Quantum Slipstream medium.
Image
Image

A torpedo boat with a 180 degree launch aperture.
Image

I was in a creative mood about three years ago, it's finished for the most part. The curve of the launch bay needs to be made a right angle though and it needs to be longer. It's supposed to be a really big ship.
Image

Nothing to do with Star Trek, it's just cool. I made this for a competition. It's about 1,000 miles long and rams planets. The turreted gun fires Galaxy Class ship size projectiles at 99.99 c. It's a colonization ship.
Image

I almost forgot this one. It's the ObliquityClass. Here are the piecs I made it from, the second one is the unfinished ship it self.

I can't beat it! Where can I download that ship? I want it!

I do believe it was a Sovereign though, I can see the original outlines of the ship!

I love the pirate insignia on it by the way!

...

Most of my ships look odd, coz whoever made them just kitbashed the bits of existing ships. The best example of this is the third one - look at the glitch on the saucer section!

I've had a quick go at modding a ship (It's renegated to the scrapyard by the way) and the saucer section is the hardest part to mod. I ended up with a Constitution saucer section that was (Half) covered in a Galaxy class 'skin' (Or whatever you call it) The other half of the Saucer was just blank!

Anyway, i've got a few more of the ships: -

I think people will recognise this one...
Image
It's the USS Relativity from Voyager if you don't know.

This one isn't exactly odd, but it does have a mistake - it is a Tri-nacelled Excelsior Variant, but is 66 registry numbers BEFORE the Excelsior! If you can't make it out in the picture, you'll have to trust me! (Am I being pedantic here?)

This is the Overlord Class
Image

I quite like this ship. It sorta looks like a Sovereign variant, but it certainly isn't a Sovereign. The reason why I think it is odd, is because of how far apart the Nacelles are.

This is the Archimedes Class
Image

I like your Sovereign Sector controller by the way. It seems fitting for the Federation to design such a ship, with all the wars and conflict it's had. I wouldn't call it the Sovereign Class though, since it is a different ship.

I love the Voyager-B as well. It is soo sleek! :D

You've done well MajorDiarr. You deserve a Gold Star! (Or Latinum, whichever you prefer)

Yeah, I shouldn't have called it Sovereign Class since it's so much larger, I didn't feel like coming up with a new name. Although, I think it was originaly designed as an alternate universe Sovereign, not as something in addition to the Sovereign.

The Overlord Class looks interesting. It would probably look better without the third nacelle.
The Archimedes Class is interesting, it actualy looks sort of good with the third nacelle. I like it more for its phaser and shield effect though.

If the Overlord Class had two Nacelles, it would basically be an Excelsior!

I've got a Two-Nacelled version of the Archimedes Class. This version is probably the original, and the Tri-Nacelled version must be an upgrade or variant. The nacelles of the ship are further apart than the Saucer Section in this ship - a first as far as I know in Federation ships! You can see just how far apart the Nacelles are in this pic: -

Image

Of course, it doesn't matter, since it isn't canon.

Oh, by the way, i've noticed that your second 'smaller' Sovereign Sector Controller is actually bigger than the original!

I think that any ship that's scaled up in any manor looks completely ridiculous. Sorry Diarr but your Sovereign twice the length of a Galaxy is so fanboy it's untrue.

I hate to pick fault, but to me kitbashes of this kind never look right, all the rescaled components etc. Don't get me wrong, some look ok, but what would they all do in the game? I agree with Diarr the 1st pic can belong to an advanced alien, it's beautiful, just not fed.

Matress, the Overlord Class and the Archimedes Class both are good looking ships. I just realised you're right about the 'smaller' Sovereign, I was looking at the normal Sovereign when I said that, rather than the Galaxy which is the ship that it is actualy scaled off of. The larger one that is said was smaller is the right size one and it's bigger by ten meters I think.

Look at the Sovereign fly by the Defiant in the beginning of First Contact and the Riker pit scene in Nemesis. :P Besides, the sector controler is for a universe with roughly six kilometer long quandrent controler ships that can industrialse planets and build fleets.

I personally view a clear statement of "almost 700 metres long" from the captain of said ship as being a better indicator than a brief and indecisive comparison to a ship known to be made of elastic. I personally think the Defiant is 120m long, it's a stretch yet possible this is consistent in FC, given the aft view is the Defiant's smallest profile.

Your statements make more sense, given the nature of the universe you describe. Obviously this ship should look significantly different to a Sovereign class vessel, given it's so much larger.

In the Star Trek Universe, Having more then 2 nacelles makes for an unstable warp field, which is one reason why the constellation class was retired (engine difficulties) but as for the other federation ship, I like the red color, it gives it a combat aura! :D

I don't buy the unstable warp fields about designs of more than two nacells. I think it's an excuse given by Gene Rodenbery to cut Jefferies out of the profits when they broke off relations...

Still, I only rarely see a design with more or less than two necells that I like. The constellation is one; the Federation is another the original found in the fitst Star Fleet Technical manual... That's about it, though. Even Promethius has a case of the uggs to my eyes... But then I'm something of a purist. I think the Museums' Wasp is the only fan-based three-nacell I ever cared for, and that was mostly because it's made up history was one of failure.

....And I positively hate designs that take an already existing class (like Soverign) and just add nacells somewhere (like an extra six on the back!). The Mars is an excellent example: it's a constitution with two nacells sticking out the top of the saucer. A ship any ship, be it meant for space or sea is a delicate ballance of power and shape; force and containment. You can't just add something somewhere and espect things to suddenly be better! A necell would take power to drive; which means more beef to the reactor; more fuel stowage; modification to the hull to support the extra weight; new heat dissipation systems... The list goes on and on. In real-world engineering, it would be easier to design and build a new ship than to modify one as greatly as the Mars! It just bothers me!!!

Ok. Off that soap-box.

As a collector of models, I highly recommend the afore mentioned Bridge Commander site; I beleive it also has SFC and Armada mods. There are some pretty wierd schematis at... Um... Oh! Crap!! I've lost the URL... Somewhere out there is a collection of schematics from Trek, B5 & Galactica... And I've lost it... Again! It's got some rather odd shapes.

That's enough horse hockey from me! ;)

Picard was obviously confused and high, when he said that he was refering to the the Enterprise-D. It's obvious that the E-E is in fact elastic in that it has gained about 10 decks since we have first seen it. Don't forget the scene in First Contact where the Akira flys near the E-E either, it makes the E-E looks four times larger than the Galaxy, not just twice. I think the ship coninualy gets larger as each movie progresses.

SonOfMogh wrote:

Not significantly, the difference in universes is mostly in scale and ferocity. The alternate Federation has interdimensional travel, transwarp drive, artificial wormholes, transphasic torpedoes, transphasic phasers, temporal flack, Omega particle reacters, there's other stuff too. They just have more stuff and by necessity have to build larger. This isn't anything the Federation we know hasn't hit now and then, the alternate Federation was just happened to be a lot more fortunate than other Federations, they even defeated their version of the Borg. But when you have an extraordinarly succesful version of the Federation, you are bound to have the same of another group in some dimension. Eventualy they ran into an ultra succesful Borg universe who were spreading out and making contact with other universe's collectives.
----------------------------------

There was actualy a canon three nacelle ship in the graveyard scene of Wolf 359. Ships can have three and four nacelles but it's just normaly not done. The advantage probably isn't that worth while normaly. Four and three nacelles would definatly give you better combat redundancy, it might give you better high warp endurence, if done right it could give you a longer period imbetween nacelle refits. More nacelles might let you shape a warp field more forcefully, allowing for somewhat higher speeds.

Yeah, so you're telling me that the Captain of the Federation flagship was high and was talking about a ship he served on 2 years previous.

It all makes sense now...

Found a new SFC2 website, with over 400 starfleet ships. Some of them are actually quite impressive. Got to page 15 of 49 so far, downloaded 20 ships (Plus DS9 for the hell of it!)

Will make pics soon, but gotta revise for an exam tomorrow. :(

Ah well, it's my last one. I've got two weeks off after that! So i'm gonna be spending a long time making the pics. Look out for them. :D

if you want an advanced look at the ships, the web addy is: -

How does Star Trek: Broccolli sound?

He was a good character. I liked him in Voyager. (Yes SonOfMogh, I like Voyager!)

Almost done downloading the ships from the website, and will start making the pics tomorrow.

Gonna see National Treasure tonight (Even though Nicholas Cage is in it) So I won't make any pics today.

I've heard of an 32-wheeled Limo with a built-in jacuzzi and 10-pin bowling alley - and that only has one engine...

Anyway, i've done the ship pics for letters A through C. It took me all day to figure out that half the ships I had downloaded were for SFC3, not SFC2. I still got some of them working though, :D although I still don't know whether DS9 is working yet... :(

Ah well, here they are: -

Affiliation Class - A Tri-nacelled Constitution
Image

Akula Class - A ship with a rather large pod (Or lump)
Image

Akyazi Class - Kinda looks like the Mephisto, but with two nacelles this time.
Image

Alabama Class - A ship with no primary hull! (Or imagination)
Image

Alita Class - A Marquis ship lookalike with a glitchy mid section
Image

Andor Class - The warp-stretch must be permanent
Image

Anomie Class - From the marriage of a Defiant and Akira
Image

Aquino Class - Time to bring out the really big torpedoes...
Image

Archangel Class - Prepare to be shocked! (If you can see it!)
Image
Not only is this ship odd, it is supposed to have FIVE warp cores, to power the weapons, and it has THREE primary deflector dishes, so it can turn at warp! (As if) it is run by the Starfleet Core of Engineers, and contains some of the most advanced technology owned (Or acquired) by the Federation.

Ashton Class - I've got a bigger shuttle bay than you!
Image

Cour De Lion Class - I actually really like this ship. It's a complete kitbash of two Miranda Saucers and pods, a Constitution primary hull, and the Nacelles of a Constellation
Image

I also downloaded a class that didn't work - but I got hold of a 3D pic of it: -
Image

That's the ships. I'll do some more tomorrow, and try to get some of the ones that didn't work to work.

Blimey, i recognise that last ship funny enough, it must be an amalgamation of organic technology, the designer must have used the huge spaceborn energy sucking alien as a base, the one where the enterprise accidentaly killed the pregnant alien, then commenced to do a sezarien delivery to save its baby which latched onto the ship blah blah suckin energy yada yada asteroid field, all lived happily ever after
