i already have a yahoo account now, and i don't use large files normally because i have ISDN, perhaps when i get DSL i will try it.
About the preloading process. I finally made it work, thanks to the work of a guy called Colin Moock, who made a class called LoaderClass.
Quote: /** * @class LoaderClass * Implements Colin Moock's Preloading Api as proposed * at http://www.moock.org/blog/archives/000010.html * * This code is supplied as is, use it at your own risk * and please don't remove this header. * * If you plan to use the code on a commercial site, * we would happily receive a donation to * paypal@helpqlodhelp.com. See the docs for the details * * Version 1.0 * Date 2003/06/13 * Author Ralf Bokelberg * */
I only have changed the species, home and index and will go on and change the rest. Not only has this clas been usefull for preloading, it also helps me to better load pages in. I won't get into details, but really this is a great help for my project.
I still need sounds, these are once i need:
Voice saying, klingon empire, United Federation Of PLanets, Romulan Star Empire, etc.. And possible also for the minor races, perhaps we have to record them.
I also needs more sounds from the counsoltyping. Thanks

i have altered all the file except for the randomevents in the species section. I would like you people to check the database, and see if there are any errors left. I also removed the tholian from the database.

As a soon to graduate English major in technical writing, I began to look for errors that I could fix, as I contain no programming skills, but a sharp editorial mind. BTW, I am an American, so I automatically typed the American spellings, so apologies to anyone who doesn't like it, just change it back you silly Brits. Here is what I found. Stuff I changed is in bold.
The Dominion:
The Dominion is one of the most powerful organizations known to exist. The architects of the Dominion are known only as “The Founders. The true nature of the Founders is a well-kept secret, however certain members of the Dominion are known to worship them as gods. Diplomacy and administration is the domain of the Vorta, skilled diplomats who report directly to the Founders. The military arm of the Dominion is the Jem Hadar, genetically enhanced soldiers who are created to fight and kill. The Jem Hadar are as formidable warriors as one is likely to meet. Jem Hadar warships are extremely maneuverable and highly advanced, utilizing phased polaron weapons technology. The Dominion has a reputation for fast and efficient shipbuilding, producing vessels at twice the rate as many empires.
The Klingons:
The Klingon Empire is feared throughout the quadrant. They are a warrior race who value honor, courage, and tradition above all else. The Klingons live for combat and will rarely seek a diplomatic solution to any incident. Despite their fierce warrior ethic, the Klingons have a reputation for honoring treaties and defending allies as they would their own people. The Klingons place little emphasis on intelligence, preferring to utilize the military as their primary means of defense. Their ships are built for pure combat. They often carry heavy weapons and are highly maneuverable.
The Cardassians:
The Cardassian Union is one of the most ruthless institutions in the known galaxy. It is believed that the Cardassians were once a peaceful, spiritual people. However, their government is now largely controlled by the military. The Cardassians have apparently faced great hardship, to which the only viable solution has been the exploitation of other worlds to support their race. The Cardassian intelligence agency, the Obsidian Order, is the most merciless and effective of all known powers. Opponents of the Union have been known to commit suicide rather than endure a Cardassian interrogation. Their warships are well armored and use powerful phasers. Their commanders tend to favor rigid military formations.
The Romulans:
Little is known of the Romulan Star Empire as much of their culture is shrouded in secrecy. It is believed they share a common ancestry with the Vulcan people. However, they did not follow the example of Surak and embrace pure logic. Many cultures have learned to steer clear of Romulan space as they are fiercely territorial and deal with potential threats quickly and brutally. Their intelligence agency, the Tal Shiar, is known to be ruthless and efficient in internal as well as external security. They are believed to be the primary reason so few races have any reliable information about the Empire. Their vessels are often large and powerful, employing cloaking devices to avoid detection and utilize the element of surprise.
The Federation:
The United Federation of Planets exists as an alliance of free worlds, united in the interests of peace. Federation members aspire to promote the ideals of cooperation and friendship to the whole galaxy, while adhering to strict policies of non-interference in other cultures. The Federation expands through diplomacy and has an effective internal security division should any outside aggressors wish to disrupt the lives of Federation citizens. Starfleet serves as the combined exploratory, diplomatic, and military arm of the Federation. While not designed primarily for battle, Starfleet ships provide an effective deterrent. They have strong shields and advanced torpedo systems, and are designed to perform as well alone as in groups.
The Acamarians:
The Acamarian species is a space faring race with a somewhat violent past. The Acamarian culture is based around clans, considered of great social and political importance despite the many conflicts between clans that have turned into wars. The Acamarians have a government headed by the Sovereign. The Acamarians seem to have become friendlier over the years, although they still rely on strong weapons technology. Acamarian ships are capable warships and are more than qualified to defend the Acamarians against most threats.
These seem to be the only races whose information I can access. I hope this is helpful, as all I can offer is moral support, my skills in the English language, and my ship to keep Napoleon and his Froggies at bay.
Ever your humble servant,
Sir Horation Hornblower of HMS Sutherland

i think i got the 1999-2000ish trek encyclopedia knocking around somewhere, it is based on the LCARS system and is similar to your flash creation, i do believe it introduces quite a few races in the LCARS voice, i shall promptly dig it out and hack it to usable bits, it is old so i think it only covers up to first contact, i shall post tomorrow if i find it

Keep suggestions comming, i will add the sounds when i am ready with the main components of the database.

Oh something else, i need discriptions for the Borg, species 8472 and the Sphere Builders. If someone would try and make them. I though i had seen Borg race discriptions in the race pictures thread? Anyway that one was a bit to large perhaps. I still have to rethink the matter of how big the text for the races have to be, and how to solve it.

i made an example of how the maps section may look like, i have uploaded it, and linked it to the database. So check for yourselve, and please tell me what you think of it. There aren't any colours, animations or whatsoever in the maps screen, only a black on white example.

looks good to me
Also, here are the descriptions for the borg and spherebuilders that were already on the site. I thought there was an 8472 one, but i couldn't find it
Sphere Builders
The Sphere Builders are a race of trans-dimensional beings. They are known for the large spheres that they built in the Delphic Expanse to attempt to transform it's environment to make it habitable for them. They are aggressively expansive and will use any means necessary to accomplish this goal. They are worshipped by a number of species because of how advanced they are. They have highly advanced and dangerous technology, including that which allows them to examine possible outcomes of the timeline. They have advanced spaceflight capabilities. Any diplomacy they undertake is usually only a ploy to further their conquests.
BlasterMaster555
Borg
The most feared civilization in the galaxy, the Borg are a race of cybernetic beings. The Borg-occupied space consists of countless star systems occupying a sizable portion of the Delta Quadrant. The Borg operate as a collective mind, with every individual wiped of their individuality and becoming part of the whole, via a subspace link. They expand by "assimilating" other races, adding their genes, knowledge, and technology into the collective. Their ships are usually rectangular, cubic, or spherical, and have extremely advanced technology. The ships can be upgraded, repaired, and modified at an unbelievable rate, allowing the ship to "adapt" and neutralize any resistance it encounters. The Borg posess the ability to create "Transwarp conduits" that allow any ship to quickly deploy across the galaxy.

I followed the instructions that someone gave on the Armadafleetcommand forums to get the english.snd file working. It is soo funny listening to the stuff about the Echo Papa 607! (The screams of the ships are great as well)
"Introducing the Echo Papa defence system. Look at the power of those newly designed weapons. it comes with the most advanced targeting system in its' class. The Echo Papa system never fires on friendly ships. But wait, there's more; Can your older defence system do this? Limited time offer. Ore producer standing by. Don't mix matter and anti-matter cold. Price plus tax plus license fee payable only in Gold-pressed Latinum. Your price may vary depending on initial down payment. Be sure to use your transpoter wisely."
Isn't it great? if you want to find the files yourself, the armadafleetcommand website itself is down at the moment, (So why is this website working?) but when it is up and running again, go on this thread: -
http://armadafleetcommand.com/botf/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=411
This thread has info on how to edit the files so you can listen to them - the files on their own are corrupt, so you need to make some changes to them, before you can listen. Alternatively, you could ask jigal, but don't ask me, since I barely remember how I did it, I just followed the instructions. (It's surprising how easy things are if you do)
I've got some TOS computer noises for you, iwulff, don't know if they are any use, but they're in your yahoo email.
I'll start looking for race voices now.

Hi
I've watching the BOTF2 project with great interest, now decided to contribute
Like the others very impressed with your "flash", and very "tek-like".
Is the idea to keep this sort of format throughout or to be diffeent for each major empire like in BOTF??? I always found the klingon and ferengi quite hard to read, I liked the clear clean, approach used on the game into/options and the Fed
Also in the map section , I wondered if the actuial map should occupy a slightly larger section of the screen??
Keep up the good work

Woah, the maps are gonna be good! Iwulff, what are you going to do about the maps for a random game? Will you just have a zoomed out view of the actual map, or are you just going to have only 'real' maps?
I still haven't found any voices for the races yet, but I could have a go at chopping up the original english sound file for you. I've had a go already, but the sound comes out with terrible quality, or speeded up (Which is really funny, I might add)

I have worked on another map section, and i will try and post it in a few hours, with some nice colours. I noticed that you guys didn't liked as much as the others. Don't worry, i also wanted some changed.

I will be planning to first create an federation interface, because this is more easier. Maybe i will create an klingon interface or something like that, would be cool. But it would require a lot work also. This database will get updates and this may take a lot of work with multiple interfaces.
I will recreate certain maps, so that i can place them into the database. They won't be like the example maps i made earlier on in some other thread. These will become much nicer, and interactive.

First off iwulff, the flash site seems to look better everytime I see it. One question, why with some of the quadrent races have you used other pics than what I thougt were the ones you picked? While the pic of Ross isnt bad, I thought the Federation was going to be Archer, and the Cardasians would be dukat (and the one you have up has weyoun in the background). Dominion and Klingon pics are good. The only other thing is the Romulans pic is kinda grainy, there has to be something better floating around.
Only trying to offer some constructive criticism.

These pictures i use are of a much higher resolution then the once we will use for the game. I didn't had the time to search a lot for good looking screens, so i placed these as an example. I will and try to search for better pictures, just rest assured. I first want this all to work, before i start of with other things.

I did a very small update, i made an exe file for the database, which isn't online. I also made it in a way that when you open the file you it goes to full screen and the only option to close it is with ESC and then close button, or the exit button. I also made just half an hour ago a short credits screen, this will be changed but it is only to show you guys how it probally will look. Fixed some other errors, and that is it. As you can see, i haven't worked on it for about 2/3 weeks. I will try and continue with it, but i can't promise anything, because i will go for 3 days to sweden in a few days from now.

Because it isn't finished yet, and don't know know what the entire list will be for the game, so why put to much energy into the credits section, only to alter it later on?
