 Firstly it’s aim to send 667 recyclers each time (2001 recyclers each planet) because you’ll never find more resources inside nebulas as they can transport.
 But so, why 3980 recyclers? Because it increases the chances to find at least anything – that’s the reason.

 Transporters are another option to farm nebulas and maybe it’s cheaper and quicker to send them. The big advantage of recyclers is that they never take part in a combat itself inside nebulas so never a ships will be destroyed inside a combat (check combat summary). For transporters I’m not sure about that.
-And it makes double effort to send two types of ships (I didn’t found the advantage of fleet function yet, especially if every turn some more new build recyclers have to join). For the same reason I don’t add [[probe]]s though this might increase the chances to find ships inside nebulas (instead of resources)

 At beginning it’s important to raise. On the other hand there are some aims:
 * colonizing more planets
