Laut der Historie von Star Trek begannen im Jahr 1993 die *Eugenik|Eugenischen Kriege*, in denen genetisch „verbesserte“ Menschen die Weltherrschaft an sich reißen wollten, was aber scheiterte. Der *Diktatur|Diktator* Khan Noonian Singh und seine Gefolgschaft flohen mit einer primitiven Rakete in den Weltraum<ref>Die Eugenischen Kriege wurden in der Episode Der schlafende Tiger und Datiert. Darauf folgte, etwa um das Jahr 2050, der *Dritter Weltkrieg|dritte Weltkrieg*. Welche Parteien in diesen Krieg involviert waren, ist nicht vollständig bekannt. Einige der Beteiligten waren die *Vereinigte Staaten|USA* und die „östliche Koalition“ wurde zum ersten mal in der Episode Brot und Spiele erwähnt. Im Film *Star Trek: Der erste Kontakt* wird das Ende des Krieges auf *2053* datiert</ref>.

Am 5. April 2063 vollführte ein Wissenschaftler namens Zefram Cochrane einen Testflug mit seinem Prototypen eines überlichtschnellen Raumschiffes, das er und seine Assistentin aus den Überresten einer *Titan (Interkontinentalrakete)|Titan*-*Interkontinentalrakete* bauten und „*Phönix (Mythologie)|Phoenix*“ tauften. Der Flug wurde zufällig von den Vulkaniern bemerkt, welche daraufhin den Kontakt zu den Menschen aufnahmen<ref>Ereignisse aus dem Film *Star Trek: Der erste Kontakt*</ref>. Dieses Szenario basiert vor allem auf der Grundhaltung der Vulkanier, mit keiner anderen Spezies einen Erstkontakt zu suchen, die nicht ihrerseits zu interstellaren Flügen imstande ist. Im Jahr 2079 lösten sich die USA auf, doch erst 2150 traten die letzten unabhängigen Staaten der *Weltregierung* der Vereinigten Erde bei. Während dieser Zeit pflegten die Menschen ihre Beziehungen zu den Vulkaniern und den Denobulanern. Die Vulkanier unterstützten die Menschen, weigerten sich aber, die vulkanische Technologie mit den Menschen zu teilen. Am 16. April 2151 ging das Raumschiff Enterprise NX-01 auf seinen Jungfernflug, um einen Klingonen, der mit seinem Raumschiff in Oklahoma abgestürzt war, zurück auf seine Heimatwelt zu bringen. In den nächsten drei Jahren ist die Enterprise Zeuge eines Temporalen Kalten Krieges, bei dem mehrere Parteien in der Zukunft versuchen, die Macht zu erlangen, indem sie die *Zeitlinie* manipulieren. Dabei kommt es 2153 zu einem Angriff der Xindi auf die Erde, dem ein kurzer Krieg folgt. In den folgenden Jahren gehen die Menschen, Vulkanier, Andorianer und Tellariten mehrere Bündnisse ein. 2156 beginnt ein Krieg mit den Romulanern, der mit *Atomwaffe*n ausgetragen wird.

Am 11. Oktober 2161 wird in San Francisco die Vereinigte Föderation der Planeten gegründet.
